Before adjusting, make sure you have set the TV settings correctly.
The screen test image doesn't give an accurate indication of the actual game's peak brightness, but the Max Luminance slider is relatively accurate and indicates peak brightness in nits. Set the Max Luminance value by finding the HDR peak brightness value (10%) of your TV on the website RTINGS.COM.The Paper White option determines the overall exposure of the image, i.e. you can safely set high values of 400-1000 without fear of losing black levels. To set the Paper White value, follow the rule: details in the shadows are well lit (the blue area in the screenshot below), but the bright areas (the red area in the screenshot below) are not well overlighting.
